As the Nawettan season draws nearer across the country, Gunjur Sports Committee (GSC) at the weekend held its annual ordinary congress at the Gunjur playground.

Attended by all the team representatives, the ordinary congress discussed last year’s Nawettan and the forthcoming one.

In his opening remarks on the occasion, the president of the GSC, Buba Bada Bojang, applauded all the team representatives for honouring their invitation to the congress.

”The congress was organised mainly to discuss last year’s Nawettan and also to look into the areas of weaknesses of the committee so as to improve on them ahead of the new Nawettan season,” Bojang said.

He used the occasion to commend GSC members and teams for their contribution towards the development of sports in Gunjur, urging them to keep up the momentum.

GSC secretary-general Abdou Janneh paid special condolence to the family of the late Uncle Badou Jasseh, the former chairman of the Gambia Referee Association who spent his life in the development of football in the country before his demise at the weekend.

Janneh said the day marked yet another milestone in the history of Gunjur Sports, adding that the congress is a constitutional mandate for any committee, to discuss the past and forthcoming Nawettans.

According to Janneh, 2010-11 Nawettan season has been one of the most successful Nawettan seasons, since it was especially trouble-free.

He called on organisers of junior tournaments to come forward and register with the GSC, noting that any junior sports committee that fail to register with the GSC “will not be considered should any problem happen”.

Janneh commended Gunjur Sateh Kafoo, Gunjur Council of Elders, Football Gambia, Basiru Bayo, Fatou’s Prints, Marlborough Football Club, Marlborough Brandt Group and Gunjur Link Committee for their contribution towards the development of sports in Gunjur.
