Gunjur Fisheries FC and Berending FC were last Saturday crowned champions of the last EK Sarr football tournament respectively following victories over their opponents in their finals.

Gunjur Fisheries FC emerged senior champions after beating Central Medina FC by 4-2 on post-match penalty shootout following a goalless draw on regulation time at the Medina Salam football field.

In the earlier kick-off played on the same day and ground at 3pm, Berending FC overcame Misira FC by the same score-line following a goalless 90-minute encounter.

As senior champions, Gunjur Fisheries FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D5,000 while junior champions Berending FC collected a cash amount of D4,500 and a giant trophy.

Both runners-up received each a consolation prize of D4,000.

Alagie Saidy, Central Medina FC captain, speaking to our reporter shortly after the game, said he was surprised his side ended up on the losing end as they haven’t lost a single game heading to the final.

Saidy, who is the leading goal scorer for the tournament, added that they have accepted the defeat and will move on.

He described his team as the strongest with the best players in the competition.

Concluding, he thanked the organisers of the tournament for staging such a “wonderful” initiative for the youth of the area but also advised the youth to be involved in initiatives of national development.

He also prayed for the late EK Sarr for Allah to grant him Jannah.
