The Deputy Imam of Gunjur, who also doubles as the President of the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), Muhammed Lamin Touray last Friday presided over the inauguration of a new mosque at Gunjur beach side.
The mosque was sponsored by Balla Musa Darboe, a native of Gunjur residing in the Federal Republic of Germany.
In his inaugural speech, Imam Touray thanked Balla Musa Darboe for his contribution towards the development of Islam, adding that the new mosque will greatly help worshippers around the beach to observe their five daily prayers without walking far distance.
He urged the people in the area to see the mosque as their property and always ensure that the place is well taken care of.
For his part, the Imam of the Mosque, Balla Musa Bojang, assured the gathering that he will do everything possible to promote Islam in the area.
He applauded sponsor Balla Musa Darboe for his tremendous contribution towards the development of Islam, noting that Balla Musa has built several mosques in Gunjur and then urged him to continue building more mosques for Muslims.
