Gov’t to react on alleged assault of journalists

The government is expected to release a statement  condemning the act of the recent assault on journalists covering the president’s Meet the People’s Tour.

The minister of Tourism and Culture, Hamat N.K. Bah made the announcement on Saturday 23 November 2019 at Basse Mansajang on day six of President Barrow’s tour in Upper River Region (URR).

Three journalists, Landing Ceesay of Paradise FM, Sally Jobe of Kerr Fatou and Ebrihima Jambang from Gambia Talents Promotion were allegedly assaulted by a member of the Barrow’s Youth for National Development, an action that attracted nationwide condemnation.

Mr. Bah said that government has denounced the attack on journalists, saying investigations have already been concluded.

“We have heard of the attack on journalists covering the tour and this is not acceptable under President Barrow’s government. Our investigation has already been concluded and on Monday the government’s spokespersons will release a statement on the matter.”
