Goodwill International Football Training Services (GIFTS) recently donated valuable materials to St John’s School for the Deaf and GOVI’s School for the Blind.

In his remarks on the occasion, Saul Sowe, co-founder and president of GIFTS, said GIFTS is a charitable foundation based in Norway and also operating in The Gambia.

The foundation works with children with the aim of getting them out of the street.

He said they first visit the schools to know their problems and the kind of games they play.

For his part, Mafugi Jatta, secretary general of GIFTS, said they engage in various activities and as a foundation they are ready to partner with the two schools.

In his speech on the occasion, Amadou Touray, Honorary Life Chairman of the school, recalled that Saul Sowe once told him he wanted to pay a visit to the school so he could know their needs and see how he could be helping them on their needs.

He said he was pleased that after meeting the heads of both schools, GIFTS, through Mr Sowe, is now supporting the schools.

In his vote of thanks, Ali Sallah, headmaster of GOVI Resource Centre, said the materials will enable them to use their goal ball court and in the future they can also compete in Olympic Games.

Acting Vice-Principal Mariam Allen of St John’s School for the Deaf said most often they receive gifts from outsiders but she was happy that Gambian people are also doing it

She thanked the donors for the support and also appealed to their fellow Gambians to lend a helping hand to other Gambians, especially schools like hers.

The donated items included jerseys, school shoes, elbow guards, head protectors and lots of other valuable materials.
