Gambia to open AFCON qualifiers group account against Angola

Gambia senior national team; the Scorpions will open their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers group D account away to Angola on 13 November in Luanda.

Coach Tom Saintfiet and his charges sailed to the group phase of the continent’s bi-annual biggest football fray qualifiers following their 3-2 penalty shootout victory over Djibouti at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.

They will tussle to overwhelm the Angolans in their opening match after losing to them 3-1on aggregate in the 2022 World Cup preliminary qualifiers last month to fancy their hopes of making their debut in the Africa Cup of Nations since its inception in 1957.

Meanwhile, Gambia will host Democratic Republic of Congo in their second group match on 19 November at the Independence Stadium in Bakau before playing away to Gabon on 8 September in Libreville. 

Coach Tom Saintfiet require to start preparing his team fit enough to overcome Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon to stand a better chance of qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon.
