Gambia to Meet Niger in U-17 Semis Sunday

africa » gambia
Friday, March 27, 2009

Group A leaders, The Gambia will meet Niger in the Semi-finals of the 8th U-17 Championship on Sunday.

The 2005 champions will clash with a side regarded as no push overs, despite finishing second in group B with six points.

Niger is also one of those nations appearing for the first time in the Under 17 Championships. The young players from Niger bade farewell to Somalia, eliminated Mali (0-1, 2-0) before beating Ivory Coast (1-2, 1-0) to earn a place in the tournament.

Without doubt, Niger is a surprise package in the competition and it should be a warning to The Gambia during Sunday's cracker.

The game is expected to kick off at  12.30 local time.

In the other semi-final on Sunday Burkina who won all three of their group games will now play hosts Algeria.
