Gambia Muslim Youth on the political impasse

Dec 20, 2016, 11:41 AM

The Assembly of Gambia Muslim Youths (AGAMY) is a national youth organisation with the cardinal aim of creating an Islamic-oriented society through dialogue, education and provision of social services.

Owing to the current unfortunate political situation in the country, we wish to reiterate that anything that affects the Peace and Security of The Gambia is not only detrimental to the development of the country but also to the wellbeing of the people.

We note with total conviction that Islam is a religion of peace and is against any act that triggers violence and disorder. Peace is the bedrock of every development, be it social, economic or religious.

Convinced by the doctrine of Islam and the teaching of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), AGAMY recognized the need to maintain the long-lasting peace and tranquillity which the Gambia is known for.

With the same inspiration, members of the organization humbly request the President, Sheikh Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh to maintain his first statement in accepting the results of the 1st December presidential polls as the will of Allah (the exalted).

While we anticipate for a peaceful and orderly transfer of power to the President-Elect, Adama Barrow, the Assembly asks Allah (SWT) to bless Gambians for their peaceful conduct of the elections, and the President for what he has done for the country.

We further seek guidance and protection of Allah (SWT) for the President-elect throughout his tenure in office.

May Allah the Almighty continue to protect The Gambia and the entire Ummah through His mercy!

Signed:
