Gambia commemorates 22nd Edition May Day Sport

Workers across The Gambia on Tuesday celebrated the 22 May Day Sports event held at the traditional ground at the Independence Stadium in Bakau where over forty teams of government officials, companies, and institutions, private and public institutions participated in commemorating the special annual May Day Sport.

At the Independence Stadium where various events took place in celebration of the day, such as Tug of War - “the survival of the fittest” in which both the female and male Gambia Armed Forces teams took the lead.

The male Armed Forces team defeated the GEG in the final competition of the Tug of War, while the Armed Forces female team defeated the GID female Tug of War team at the final.

However, in the pillow fighting final competition, Gampost came out first at the expense of the National Petroleum Company.

Other events such as running race, musical chair and other interesting activities were also competed.

After the final compilation of all the results on all events, the Gambia Police Force came out first position with 111 points, followed by Kombo Beach Hotel with 106 points, and the Gambia Immigration Department third with 103 points.

However, The Gambia Armed Forces came out fourth with 102 points, the RVTH fifth with 100 points while Africell came out fifth with 94 points.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is therefore extending profound appreciation and thanks to the sponsors who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the special day.

The GNOC is also saying a big thank you to Samsung, which was the main sponsor of the event and further thanked all the participants and those who contributed in one way or another to the success of the event.
