Galp Energia opens new station in Brusubi

The Deputy Minister of Petroleum, Tenenba Jaiteh, on Friday presided over the launching ceremony of Galp Energia new retail outlet in Brusubi, Kombo North, West Coast Region.

In her launching statement, Tenenba Jaiteh, expressed appreciation to the president for his unique and dedicated service to the people of The Gambia in his unrivalled strive for better Gambia in all forms and times.

She also applauded the contractors, Gai Enterprise, and the people of The Gambia, especially their esteemed customers without whose patronage “this investment would not have come to reality”.

“We continue to count on your support and assure you that you will continue to be the focus of Galp Gambia in our ever renewed quest to provide you with the highest quality products and unrivalled service delivery,” Jaiteh said.

Speaking earlier, Galp group leader for Africa, Carlos Bayan, said the day marked another milestone in the history of Galp in Africa, “as we congregate to launch this state-of-the-art service station here in Brusubi”.

He revealed that Galp Energia is a Portuguese-based company established in Portugal in 1999 as a business concern in the oil natural gas industry and power, after the Portuguese energy sector was restructured.

He further revealed that Galp Energia is actually an offspring of a group of companies predating to the 18th Century which engaged in base energy related services like oil fired lamps, coal and fired gas lighting, which evolved over the countries to modern day energy products.

According to him, Galp Energia operates in a total of 14 countries spread from North and Southern America, to Africa, the Iberian Peninsula and East Timor.

The company, he said, owns a total of more than 1,600 service stations managed by workforces of over 8,000 employees.

He further revealed that they operate with a market capital of US$17b and achieve an average annual turnover of US$17b, gaining an average global profit of US$ 450m.

“Within two years of our presence in The Gambia, Galp Energia has invested over D80m mainly in the rebranding of the required assets, from Shell to Galp Energia, sales promotion activities, and construction of the new Brusubi outlet investment.
“The sponsorship of Lower Basic School football tournament and its support of the Galp Ward at the RVTH,” Bayan said.

For his part, the managing director of Galp Gambia, Paulo Lopez, commended President Yahya Jammeh for creating an enabling environment for business to operate, thus giving them the opportunity to establish their business in the country.
