Free Mind Organisation operating in Old Yundum Health Care Centre

Free Mind Organization, a non-profit and a charitable organization founded in The Gambia in 2012, is out to enhance professionalism, build capacity and help to promote the health and arts sectors.

It also aims to create job opportunities for livelihood depending on the individual’s or group’s choice or interests.

The Free Mind Organization in its strive to champion a sensitive and vibrant position in complementing Government’s efforts in programmes and projects, had promoted two music books, at the Reiki Health Centre.

This was to sensitise the populace with regard to the importance of social reformation and action as well as adding value to their activities connected to development.

Andrea Shooter, chairman and manager of the Free Mind Organization, said the health care centre is a private health centre but more of a charitable health centre.

They are seeking support from the government and other private individuals for the hospital as they are not well equipped, he said.

“As a small health centre, we have two doctors, two nurses and labs where we conduct a variety of tests which include pregnancy tests,” he added.

Mr Shooter further revealed that the health care centre gives patients choices of treatment as they do several types of treatment which includes conventional, herbal and Reiki healings which he described as a Japanese relaxation technique (an alternative health therapy).

He added that the Reiki treatments help to restore balance to body, mind and spirit.

He revealed that the medicines used in the clinic are purchased in The Gambia.

Malick Baldeh, coordinator and proposal assistant, said when it comes to the cost of medicine, the Old Yundum Health Centre is the cheapest compared to other clinics.

They are soliciting for support from the government and other private bodies to enable them to rehabilitate certain equipment which use are in high demand, he said.

Yaya Jawo, a Reiki healer said he was personally trained by Andrea Shooter and he already has had his first and second degrees in the treatment.

He further revealed that he has been in the process of treating patients with Reiki for almost 4 years now and the treatment has been successful.
