Magistrate E.A. Amadi of the Brikama Magistratres' Court recently convicted and sentenced George Dasilva and Modou Tamba to a fine of D5, 000, in default to serve two years' imprisonment following their own plea of guilt for making false documents.

According to the facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, Superintendent Touray, it happened on 21st January 2010, at the Banjul International Airport when the Spanish flight crew came across the accused persons with forged travelling documents.

He further explained that the 1st accused, Mr. Dasilva was found in possession of an Angolan passport, bearing his photograph and name appended as George Dasilva, which is contradictory to his Gambian name.

Superintendent Touray added that the 2nd accused Modou Tamba was also found with a Gambian passport, with a forged visa and residential card of Belgium.

Subsequently, he added the accused persons were arrested, cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

Defence Counsel Fafa Mbai begged the court to temper justice with mercy on the accused person, saying they are first time offenders.
