Tuesday, September 22, 2009

A charge of rash and negligence, causing death has been levelled against one Lamin Ceesay, a driver from Sotokoi Village in Kombo East, Western Region.

He was last Wednesday arraigned before a magistrate court in Brikama.

The prosecution alleged that Lamin Ceesay on Saturday 12th September 2009 between the hours of 17.48 and 18.00 hours, at Kembuje Village in the Western Region drove a motor vehicle, with a registration number BJL 1045 F, in a rash and negligent manner, and thereby caused the death of one Bakary Bah.

He denied the charges.

The deceased, Bakary Bah, aged 8, was reportedly knocked down by the vehicle killing him on the spot, while he was trying to cross the highway to follow his herd of sheep.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Musa Njie, applied for an adjournment on the grounds that the case file was sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers for legal advice.

The trial Magistrate, Emmanuel A. Amadi, granted the application and subsequently put off the case until 21st October 2009.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ceesay was remanded on bail in the sum of D3, 000.
