Court martial jails six army officers

The ministry of Defence in Banjul Tuesday announced the dismissal of six army officers, following the disciplinary court martial for “indiscipline while in Darfur under Gancoy 13”.

A press release stated that the court martial was held at the Yundum army barracks in May last year, and sentenced the six men each to around two years imprisonment, without the option of a fine.

All the sentences are with effect from 27 January 2014, when the judgment was delivered.

Army major Musa Gibba was found guilty of failure to perform military duties and disobedience of lawful command. He was sentenced to imprisonment for 23 months.

Lt Ebrima JB Kujabi was guilty of the offence of disobedience of lawful command. He was sentenced to 23 months imprisonment.

Warrant office class 1 Suwaibu Ceesay was guilty of scandalous conduct and disobedience of lawful command. His sentence was 22 months imprisonment.

Warrant Officer Karamo Drammeh was also guilty of scandalous conduct. He was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment.

Army corporal Lamin B Waggeh was guilty of unauthorized use of vehicle. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Corporal Muhammed Sowe was guilty of scandalous conduct. He was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment.
