Commonwealth Handball Men Championship Ends in Nigeria

The Gambia Handball Association last Saturday returned from Nigeria which they attended asix Nation commonwealth Handball Men Championship.

Speaking in an interview shortly after their return Nuha Darboe Secretary General of the Association said that out of the six countries that participated the Gambia came out fourth position.

Mr Darboe pointed out that thisis theinternational tournament organised by the commonwealth for handball and the Gambia has learn a lot from the championship noting that during the championship new rule of the game was introduce which the Gambia was not aware of but they were able to adopt to the new rules.

He added that for the new rules they were using gum in their hands before using the ball.

He stated that it is among their plans to organize coaching and referee clinics to introduce the new regulations to the players noting that their objective is to take the game to the grass root level.

Malick Jarra Head coach of the Gambia Handball Association expressed his satisfaction to the performance of the country in the just concluded championship.

He stated that they will work hard to improve the physically fitness of the players and call on the private-sector and individuals to invest in handball.
