The 2012 Brufut Zonal Championship kicked off on Wednesday 28 March at Brufut, witnessed by Pa Suwareh of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and National Sports Council’s Mamodou Max Jallow among others.

The ten-team tournament was opened by an encounter between Brufut Sateba A and Brufut Sanchaba A, which ended 2-2.

A well played first half by both sides ended goalless draw.

However, later in the 8th minute of the second half, Buba Drammeh of Sanchaba A, scored the opening.

Pa Modou Jatta of Sateba A pulled back one to erase the lead by Sanchaba A. But in the 30th minute of the second half, Buba Drammeh of Sanchaba A doubled his goal tally.

After snatching a free-kick from their opponents, Sanusey Bojang of Sateba A equalised the second goal through a long range shot about 40 metres away from their opponents’ half in the 36th minute before the game ended.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Buba Drammeh said he used to score for all the teams he had played for and will continue his efforts by scoring for his team.

He further urged his teammates to work collectively to promote modern football in Brufut.

The head coach of Sanchaba A, Modou Wadda, said he was not disappointed in his team, because the opponents are a great team like his, but he could have won the game.

Ismaila Manneh, head coach of Sateba A, said he felt good of the performance of his boys denying defeat from their counterparts.

Their target is to have a good team, he said, promising they would defeat the champions.
