Boost For Education, Youth Sectors

The Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan, through its embassy in Banjul on Wednesday 16th September 2009, donated one million US dollars to The Gambia.

The money is earmarked for the country's education and youth sectors.

In presenting the cheque, on behalf of his government, the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, H.E. Richard Shih, expressed delight in making the presentation.

According to the Taiwanese diplomat, the two sectors are very crucial for the development of any country. He hailed the friendly ties that exist between The Gambia and Taiwan.

In receiving the cheque, on behalf of the Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Njogu Bah, the Secretary to Cabinet thanked the government of Taiwan for the gesture. He revealed that the money would be used to boost youth employment and education sector.

"These are two important areas for the government," he stated.

Mr. Ebrima Camara, the Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President moderated the ceremony.

The ceremony was held at State House in Banjul.

Present at the ceremony was Mr. Tom Lee 1st Secretary, at the Taiwanese Embassy.
