Alleged fraudulent appropriation of power case reaches court

One Yaya Badjie was on Monday brought before Magistrate Foster of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with fraudulent appropriation of power.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D10,000 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit a valid ID card or passport.

The charge sheet read in court stated that the accused, Yaya Badjie, in the year 2012 at Brikama Town, West Coast Region, did illegal by-pass of electricity meter at his compound from NAWEC’s main source, and thereby committed an offence.

Meanwhile, in a similar development, one Yankuba Darboe was also Monday brought before the same magistrate at the same court on a similar charge.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D10,000 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit an ID card or passport.

The particulars of offence stated that the accused, Yankuba Darboe, on 30 May 2011, at Brikama Town, West Coast Region, did illegal electricity meter connection in his workshop from NAWEC’s main source, and thereby committed an offence.

In a similar development, one Sarjo Jabang, was also Monday brought before the same magistrate at the same court on a similar charge.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D10, 000 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit an ID card or passport.

The particulars of offence stated that the accused, Sarjo Jabang, in November 2012, at Brikama Town, West Coast Region, did illegal by-pass of electricity meter connection in his compound from NAWEC’s main source, thereby committed an offence.
