As GFA Reveals Final Squad For UK Training Camp

The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has finally revealed the list of players that are set for an intensive 3-week training camp in the United Kingdom in the build up to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria slated for October.

A total of 24 local players, out of those who have successfully passed the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test are selected by the FA for the UK training camp.

They will be joined by three other players who are currently plighing their trade in professional leagues in Europe: namely Alieu Darboe who plays in France, Foday Sidibeh in London and Charles Davies who is also making name for himself in the English football to make up the 27-man squad.

At least 11 players of the Gambian U-17 team that guided the country to its second Africa U-17 cadet championship title in Algeria recently, failed to make up the final squad that will be leaving the country for the United Kingdom today.

The main casualities who will not be taking part in the UK training camp are: Goalkeeper Musa Camara who was crowned the best goalkeeper in the Algeria tournament, Buba Findi Jammeh, Sainey Sambou of Africell, Seedy Bah, Bakau United, Alasana Camara, Steve Biko, Jatta Baldeh, Bakau United, Matar Jobe alias (Nesta) of Real De Banjul, Abdoulie Jatta (Aimar) of Steve Biko, Omar Colley of Wallidan, Abdou Njie - GPA and Famara Bojang of Steve Biko.

This suggests that only a handful of  players from the squad that went to Algeria: Dawda Ceesay - Hawks, Kemo Fatty - Sea View, Playmaker Saikou Gassama of GPA, Pateh Nyang - Sea View Captain, Babucarr Savage - Armed Forces, Lamin Samateh alias (Bassmen) of Steve Biko and striker Ebrima Bojang of Dakar side Yeggo FC will make it to the UK training camp.

The others are: Ousman Darboe - Africell FC, Sanusi Jabi - Gamtel, Saikou Janneh - Bakau United, Kissima Bojang - Samger, Buba Jallow commonly called (Melez) of Samger, Ebrima Saho - Africell FC, Lamin Sarjo Samateh - Samger, Assan Ceesay - Gamtel, Omar Bojang - Africell, Bakary Bunja Sanyang - Lamin United FC, Ismaila Suwaneh - GPA, Mamudou S.
