Jun 2, 2009, 8:09 AM

A press release from the Gambia's Immigration Department has stated that, for the purpose of clarity, the department would like to inform the general public that the introduction of the Biometric system will not affect the issuance of Alien Card and Resident Permits A and B.

"Aliens, who have not regularised their stay, are hereby warned to do so immediately as the aforementioned documents are available at all the issuing centres across the country," the release stated.

The Immigration Department issued a press release on 22nd May 2009, that it is embarking on the modernisation of all identification documents under its purview. And at the completion of the modernisation exercise, the Gambia Immigration Department would provide National Identity Documents with Biometric details.

In that press release, it states that the first phase of the project will include the National Identity Card, Alien Cards and Residential Permits A & B. The project is expected to be completed in the next three (3) months. Thus, until the completion of the project, all the aforementioned documents will be issued on an emergency basis.

Pristine Consulting, a Gambian company is being contracted for this Biometric system.
