Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, The Gambia, last Friday supported six more fire and flood disaster victims in the Kanifing Municipality with food items and cash.

Each of the six disaster victims was given two bags of rice, sugar, onion, cooking oil and a cash amount of one thousand dalasi.

Speaking at the presentation held at Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at head office in Tallinding, Amir Baba F. Trawally said Prophet Muhammed (SAW) has urged Muslims to always try to assist the needy which, he said was why they extended a helping hand to the disaster victims.

“We should open our arms to the needy with whatever little thing we have. We should always come together to assist not only disaster victims but also the poor and needy in our society. Let us give and share our wealth, properties and whatever we have with the poor and needy,” he said.

Amir Trawally thanked Allah that there was no loss of lives during the disasters, praying for Gambia to remain peaceful and stable.

“Peace cannot be taken for granted. Let us do everything in our ability to keep the peace and ensure that justice prevails, because without justice there cannot be peace,” he further said.

Deputising for the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Habib M.L Ceesay, councilor of Ebo Town and New Jeshwang ward described the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at as a savior of the country and humanity.

He stated that people must emulate the Jama’at in supporting humanity and thanked them for always coming to their rescue as a council to fulfill their mandate to the electorates.

Mr Ceesay admitted that the municipality is vulnerable to disasters, saying they need to come up with sensitisation mechanisms.

Bubacarr Fofana, KMC Disaster Coordinator said Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at have been intervening in so many areas in their support to humanity.

He appealed to religious and other organisations to emulate the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, saying if organisations and philanthropists emulate them, almost all disaster victims in the country will get assistance.

According to Mr Ceesay, the National Disaster Management Agency and Government cannot provide all the needed support to disaster victims, that is why it is important for external assistance.

He advises the public to be careful with fires, knowing that people cannot live without it. He also thanked the Jama’at and urged beneficiaries to use the items for the purpose they are given for.

Lamin Dibba, Councilor for Bakau Ward said disasters can happen at any time and to anyone, adding that the gesture cannot replace what the victims lost but it will go a long way in the sustainability of their families.

Ebrima Jammeh and Fatou Joof, two among the beneficiary disaster victims thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at for the assistance.

Fatou Joof said, GMS Operators could have been helping the needy but there are not doing that.
