Ahead of the GAA elections: All executive positions remain unopposed

Nov 11, 2011, 2:29 PM

As the congress of the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA) draws nearer, it seems there is nothing to vote for as all the executive positions of the GAA have so far remained unopposed with days before the elections.

Since the withdrawal of Musa P. Manneh as a presidential candidate recently, there is only one candidate vying for the GAA top seat and that is Dodou Joof. It appears that Capi, as he is fondly called, will go to the polls unopposed and so to the rest of the other candidates fighting for various positions in the association, Pointsport was informed.

Reports also reaching Pointsport’s desk can also reveal that two out of 19 athletics clubs in the country have failed to submit their nomination for one reason or the other, which has automatically disqualified them from taking part in the election.

This means only 17 clubs have so far submitted their nomination letters. These include the Gambia prison Service, Banjul Sports Committee, St Augustine’s Senior Secondary School, the Secondary School Association, Elite Athletics Club, Combined Forces Association, GAMSTAR Insurance, Gambia Fire/ Rescue Service, Muslim Senior Secondary School Athletics Clubs, National Primary School Sport, Amdalaye Athletics Association, Jammagain Athletics Club, GAF Sports Battalion, Mass Sosseh Athletics Club and Fajara Flyer Athletics club.

Below is the GAA’s preferred incoming executive:  Alh Dodou Joof,  President; Alh Bai Ndongo Faal, 1st Vice President; Mr. Edrisa Njie Chico, 2nd Vice President; Aji Amira Jagne, Secretary General; Mr Martin Gomez, Assistant Secretary; Alh Samba A.S. Mbye, Treasurer; Mr. Pa Assan Sylva, Auditor; Alh Mustapha Gibba (AJatta), Member; Alh Ousman Njie, Member; Mr Ousman Jallow, Member; Miss Jabou Jawo, Member; Mr Bakary Jammeh, Member; and Mr Abdoulie Kah, also to serve as a Member.
