The Gambia Golf Association (GGA) has announced that the 2016 Qatar Cup will be held from 5 to 7 February 2016 at the Fajara Golf Course, under the generous sponsorship of the Embassy of Qatar in Banjul.

According to a media release sent to Point Sports Desk, the tournament is being organised by the Fajara Club Golf Committee, in partnership with the Embassy of Qatar and the GGA.

“This is the 3rd edition of the Qatar Cup which has grown bigger from year to year, in terms of number of players and sponsorship,” this release stated.

It added that the popularity of the tournament “has gone beyond our borders”, as about 6 participants are expected from Senegal among the 70 players expected to participate, making it one of the major tournaments in the country this year.

The tournament format is medal: two rounds of 36 holes for the professionals, and stableford, one round of 18 holes for the amateurs.

The total prize money for the professional category is D66,000 (Sixty-six thousand dalasis), and prizes for the amateur category include golf sets, individual clubs and golf bags.

There are also special prizes for both categories, including nearest the pin and longest drive.
