Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Ms. Meskerem Lilly Mulatu, a World Bank official tast team leader for the Gambnia , has commended Gambian teachers for taking on the challenge of guiding the learning processes of children in the country.

She said, "with the encouragement of Gambian teachers coupled with better salaries, they would take on the challenges of their chosen career, thus the future of the nation could be assured, and the most remote villages and the most disadvantaged groups will be assured of good quality education."

Ms. Mulatu was speaking recently during the official re-endorsement of the Education Medium Term Plan by the in- country donor partners at the Corinth Atlantic Hotel in Banjul.

She noted that with commitment and hard work on the side of the Gambian teachers, the goals set by the government of The Gambia and re- endorsed by the development partners would be achieved.

She applauded the mothers of the young student-teachers who are participating in the teacher- training programme at The Gambia College.

Ms. Mulatu maintained that these young student-teachers undertaking the PTC and HTC courses will be able to improve substantially the educational and lifetime chances for their own family and their communities and will also serve as important role models to the little ones that would be in their classrooms.

The signing ceremony also coincided with the visit by the WB Human Development Network vice president, Mrs. Joy Phuamphi.
