Magistrate Calls for Attitudinal Change

africa » gambia
Monday, August 18, 2008

MagistratePa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates' Court had called for attitudinal change in society, noting that the youths should respect the elders, as is the African culture.

Magistrate Jammeh made this call while presiding over a case involving the accused Lamin Sambou and his mother.

According to the facts of the case, the accused Lamin Sambou had threatened the family with a cutlass, using abusive words on them including his mother to the extent that the mother said she could no longer stay with the son.

In response, the accused denied threatening his mother with a cutlass, but instead he was there with the cutlass to clear grasses around the compound.

However, the presiding Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh remanded the accused Lamin Sambou at the Mile II central prisons pending the outcome of the case.
