The Gambia U-17 team, yesterday defeated Africell/ Saitmatty, a first division outfit, 4-2 in a friendly match played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The team is warming up for their first appearance in the Algeria 2009 U-17 qualifying rounds and first leg game against Sierra Leone on August 30th 2008 in Banjul.
Coach Tarik Siagy, speaking to Pointsports at the end of the game, expressed optimism that the team can surely book their qualification to the continental championship for the second time if they maintain a consistent performance.
"I am very happy with the team's performance and I believe they are on the right track," he added.
He called on all Gambians to rally behind the team, support them financially and pray for them to succeed in the qualifiers.
Coach Siagy commended the GFA for their tremendous contribution to the development of football in the country and urged them to keep the momentum.
