Advance School Holds Graduation

Advance Nursery and Lower Basic School in London Corner recently held their annual speech and prize-giving ceremony at the school premises.

The guest speaker at the occasion was the principal education officer for Region One Mr. Omar Jatta. He said that education is a training which is given by suitable habits to the first instinct of virtue in children when pleasure and pain are rightly implanted in non-rational souls. PEO Jatta said that education calls for positive outcomes by all means and at all times, adding that any activity that does not positively support the improvement of the lives of people in any way cannot be considered to be educational.

He said that drinking alcohol, homosexuality, lack of respect or regard for others or authority, dishonesty, tribalism and racism cannot be considered to be educational in any way shape or form.

According to Mr. Jatta, education makes people easy to lead but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave. 

In her annual speech the headmistress of Advance Nursery and Lower Basic School, Mbayang Jobe, said the graduation and prize-giving ceremony in her school was two-fold because it saw the graduation of the nursery students and the inauguration of the schools newly equipped computer laboratory.

She said the graduation in her school was a remarkable process, adding that the school has grown to a national standard as it is qualified to sit for the National Assessment Test for Grade Three. She expressed optimism that the schools results will be among the best in the country.

Headmistress Jobe said the computers in the lab will not only be beneficial to the students and teachers but also to the communities within the area.

According to her, technology has helped people to acquire a great wealth of knowledge and contributes immensely to the socio-economic development of many great nations. She believes that the introduction of computer studies in the school will contribute largely to the development of students.
