FEGAMSO Congress Slated for August

FEGAMSO is the umbrella body of all school based Islamic clubs and societies in the country. Founded in 1995, FEGAMSO's main objective is to propagate the teaching of Islam among Muslim students in the country.

Reports reaching us reveal that the various components of the event will include the election of a new executive, review and adoption of the constitution and a plan of action for a period of two years.

Speaking to Youth Forum yesterday, the president of FEGAMSO, brother Mustapha Barry, described the event as one of the most important activities in the calendar of the organisation. He revealed that over 150 delegates from different schools across will attend the three-day congress. "The event will promote unity among Muslim students, serve as training forum for participants as well as focus on our meaningful objectives," he said. Brother Barry further revealed that the estimated budget for the event is D66,750.00. The securing of this target is a big challenge for the Muslim students body he says.

He said that feeding, housing and transporting over 150 students from across the country requires a lot of resources. He appealed to the government, NGOs, Islamic organisations and individuals to help them with the necessary funds for them to have a successful congress.

The FEGAMSO president also informed Youth Forum that they have already selected various organising committees to work towards a successful congress. The committees fundraising committee, headed by brother Abubacarr Bojang, logistics committee, led by brother Alhagie Darboe, the Information, Education and Communication committee is chaired by Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, the Program Coordinator, Treasurer and Public Relations Officer of FEGAMSO respectively.

Brother Barry called on all committee members to work hard in order to make this year's event a success. While expressing confidence on all committee members and their chairpersons, Mr. Barry urged them to work as a team to enable them attain their tasks noting that their success of their work will determine the overall success of the congress. Each committee comprises of 10 to 12 members including both boys and girls.

The biannual gathering, which is expected to be held within the Greater Banjul Area, will also feature presentations by various Islamic scholars in the country.
