The Banjul Magistrates Court has issued a subpoena for the appearance of Abdoulie Kujabi, former Director General of the National Intelligent Agancy (NIA), in court on the next hearing on Ex-Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang's case.

According to Magistrate Kayode, Abdoulie Kujabi has been repeatedly mentioned by both the prosecution and the defence in the case, thus making his evidence essential to enable the court arrive at substantive justice in the case.

Testifying under cross-examination, the accused ex-Superintendent admitted selling the vehicle BJL 4591B and also receiving the sum of D75,000 from Alhagie Conteh. "I wrote the issue of ownership to Mr Conteh using the address of Youth Wing State House," he stated.

He told the court that he had obtained the consent of the proprietor of Youth Development Enterprise, Baba Jobe, to sell the vehicle BJL 4591B. He added that as he did not need to seek clearance from the president he did not ask any body to seek clearance from the president to sell the vehicle BJL 4591B. Mr Sanyang further told the court that in the execution of the functions of his office, he had to seek clearance from the Secretary-General Office of the President but that with regard to the sale of vehicle BJL 4591B he did not need to seek clearance from the Secretary General because it is not a government vehicle.

The accused further told the court that he was not employed at State House as Government Vehicles Controller but was instead posted there. " I instructed the Licensing Department to effect transfer ownership of BJL 4591B," he stated, adding that he was paid by the Gambia Police Force in his capacity as a Superintendent but not as the head of the Vehicles Control Unit. As to where he met Baba Jobe to obtain his consent for the sale of vehicle BJL 4591B, he said he met Baba Jobe at his office called Money Shop along Kairaba Avenue.

Also testifying, the defence witness, Lamin Manneh, told the court that he is the constituency Secretary General of the APRC in Lower Fulladu District and that his relation with the accused was based on politics as they were both members of APRC. He told the court that he was with the accused when Abdoulie Kujabi called the accused to auction a vehicle parked at the Gamwater premises and that he was also present at the NIA headquarters when the accused surrendered the D75,000 to Abdoulie Kujabi.

The case was at length adjourned to 28th July.
