Nana Sensitised Stakeholders on Breast-feeding

National Nutrition Agency (Nana) last Saturday organised a one-day sensitisation programme for stakeholders on the international code of marketing of breast milk Substitutes and breast feeding promotion regulations in The Gambia.

The participants were drawn from artists, health personnel and the media among other groups.

Speaking at the occasion, Modou Phall, acting executive director of Nana, stated that Nana is committed to the development of women and children noting that Nana over the years has developed lot of messages on breast-feeding and it is the artists who can easily pass the messages to flow down to the communities.

He pointed out that the role of the media and other partners in the promotion of breastfeeding regulation is central.

During the sensitisation Mrs Isatou Jeng Ngom, a senior program officer Nana, presented a paper on the importance and benefits of breast-feeding. Mr. Bakary Jallow, also a senior program officer at the institute, also presented a paper on the international code on the marketing of breast milk substitutes whilst Mr Malang Fofana presented a paper on the breast-feeding promotion Regulations 2006.

At the end of the meeting, participants assured Nana of their full support towards promoting the Breast feeding regulations in the country.
