Following the Government zero-tolerance to human trafficking
or abuse of children, the Banjul Magistrates' court presided over by Magistrate
BY Camara, recently convicted and sentenced one Sheihk Jobe to 2 years
imprisonment with hard labour without option of a fine.
According to the charge sheet, Sheikh Jobe , on or about 2ndof April 2008, at Warfi Njago in Banjul, unlawfully stole two children in the persons of Telma Bungura and Mariama Jallow by enticing them with biscuits that resulted in getting custody of the said persons and thereby committing an offence.In his judgement, Magistrate BY Camara stated that child abuse is a general problem which needs much attention in order to put it to an immediate stop. He pointed out that nobody could predict who would be the victims of this problem. He added that in order to send a signal to the general public, the accused is accordingly sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour without an option of a fine.
