Tuesday, July 01, 2008

Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) were on Sunday crowned champions of the 6th edition of the National Inter-Departmental Sports Association tournament (NISA).

The final was played between The Gambia Armed Forces and KMC at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The game, which ended 1-1, was a well-contested one as Armed forces were the first to score. During the second half the municipal boys wasted no time in leveling the scores.

The game ended in a post match penalty shootout which KMC won by 5-3.

At the end of the final the winners were awarded a trophy and a cheque for D12,000 while the runners up, GAF, received a trophy and a cheque for D8,000. Third place was secured by Fire Service and they received D6,000. The leading goal scorer prize went to Modou A. Kinteh of KMC while the most disciplined team award went to Gamtel.

In another development, the second edition of the female tournament opened with a match between SSHFC and Immigration which The Gambia Immigration won by 1-0. The tournament, sponsored by Hon Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay Speaker of the National Assembly and named after President Jammeh, will continue in the coming weeks.
