Driver to be tried on traffic offences

africa » gambia
Tuesday, July 01, 2008

For running into a traffic light pole on the busy Kombo Sillah Highway, a commercial van driver will be tried by a magistrates' court early next month.

The Bundung Magistrates' Court, chaired by Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara, is in July expected to continue hearing testimonies in the trial of the van driver after he was formally charged with negligent driving as well as causing a road accident.

Alieu Njie, the driver in question, is alleged to have driven his vehicle in a carefree manner and, as a result, caused an accident by hitting a traffic light pole at Junction Kaaw in Latrikunda Sabiji.

He insists he has not committed any offence and will return to court on the 9th of July 2008, for the continuation his trial.
