Hearing of testimonies have begun into an alleged infanticide case which allegedly unfolded in Farato village sometime this year.
The prosecution on Monday opened its case against the alleged perpetrator of the act, Isatou Fatty, who denies the allegations.
Giving testimony in the trial currently underway at the Brikama Magistrates' Court, the latest prosecution witness, Kebba Camara, informed the court that he was paid a visit by a sister to the suspect who informed him that she was suspicious that the suspect was pregnant.
"Being an uncle to all of them, I invited Isatou and her sister to my house but Isatou denied being pregnant when I tried to inquire from her. However, on 30 April 2008, I returned from work and was informed by my wife that Isatou was sick but had refused to go to a health centre,"recounted the witness.
"Later in the evening, she informed my wife that she had given birth to a baby but had dumped it in a toilet. It was then that the matter was reported to Brikama police station."
The case, chaired by Magistrate Edrisa Mbai, continues.
