Scorpions Abused, Stoned, Harassed in Algeria

Monday, June 23, 2008

SAs the National Squad returned home yesterday morning from Algeria following their one Nil defeat last Friday, the team Captain, Ebou Sillah and Assistance Coach Lamin Sarr bitterly complained  about the poor treatment meted out to the Scorpions in Algeria .

Speaking in a brief interview with Pointsports shortly after their arrival, Scorpions Assistant Coach Lamin Sarr said the knife that was found on the pitch during match was found in the hands of the left back wearing the number 11 jersey for Algeria.

Coach Sarr said today they will report the issue to the Gambia Football Association officials.

For his part, the team Captain Ebou Sillah  pointed out that before the game the Algerian fans were stoning them on the pitch.

He stated that during the match the Algerian players were threatening that if Gambia won the game they would be killed.

He questioned how the knife came to the field of play saying, "we will report to the GFA to write to Caf and FIFA to lodge our complains to these highest bodies."

He said the team does not deserve such treatment because such behaviour will discourage the young players in the team.

Reacting to the story GFA secretary General Jammeh E.K Bojang said, "we are yet to hear from the boys and head of delegation if they report it necessary we will put a claim in to FIFA. We will look and study the complaint critically".
