Two More Gambians Appointed Judges

In line with the Gambia Government's policy to indiginise the judiciary, two more Gambians have been appointed High Court judges.

Magistrate B.Y. Camara and Moses Richard, both Principal Magistrates, have been appointed High Court Judges with effect from 1st July 2008.

Prior to their latest appointment B.Y. Camara served as a magistrate, Senior Magistrate, Principal Magistrate and later Master of the High Court. He was later appointed Principal Magistrate, the position he held until his new appointment as High Court Judge. Moses Richard on the other hand was formerly a magistrate, senior magistrate and principal magistrate. He is currently undergoing a Master's programme in Law in the United Kingdom.

In a related development, Justice Ota, a High Court Judge, has also been elevated to the position of an Appeal Court judge with effect from 1st June 2008. Justice Ota hitherto served as a High Court Judge for about three years in the Commercial Division.

In another development, Haruna Jaiteh, the acting Judicial Secretary, has been promoted as Judiciary Secretary with effect from 1st June 2008. He was in acting capacity since September 2007, after having served as the deputy Judicial Secretary.

Mr Jaiteh rose through the ranks from Clerk, Assistant Registrar, Senior Registrar and Principal Registrar. During the past 15years he underwent various local and international management courses in Human Resources Management, Management Studies, Strategic Management, Records Management and Performance Management among others. He also undertook several study tours to many judiciaries in Africa and Europe.
