PURA Assists the Needy

Public Utilities and Regulating Authority (PURA) has recently extended yet another hand to St. Therese Lectors to purchase their vestments for liturgical functions.

PURA, responsible for regulating utilities of the country, has come to the aid of needy groups including the St. Therese Lectors group responsible for proclaiming the Good News in the church, by donating D7, 400 towards the purchase and sewing of their vestments for their church celebrations.

According to Austin Kanjia, president of the St. Therese's Lectors' Group, their Lectors group had suffered a long time for lack of vestments to suit their religious celebrations. He said, "We are delighted that PURA is able to extend their generosity to our small Lectors Group that is ready to make a difference amidst self-reliance. Over the years, we have had problems of getting these vestments but thank God you have saved us. Our people would love to see new vestments worn by their lectors and the praise goes to PURA who have no boundaries in assisting the community."

Alex da Costa, PURA's communication chief, reiterated their commitment in making PURA known for what they do. He said their company is glad to associate with church groups, Muslim groups, the society and the sick. "This is not our first time to assist a church group, we have been helping youth groups and non-religious groups as well. We stand to help the community. I am urging the community to help by paying their bills in time, it will go a long way," he said.

Marcel Mendy, secretary of the Lectors, said, "We are delighted that in our tenure we are able to secure help from somewhere. I thank our president Austin whose innovative ideas brought changes to our group. I also thank PURA for their kind help, may God bless them," he said.

Other members stated that no other executive has brought help to their group and at all costs the present executive deserves a 'thank you' despite all odds. "There are more in the offing, let us hope," said the president.
