He went on to say that the court was not happy with the way Kanifing Estate Police Station had handled the case. He stated that the two other culprits by all means should have been arrested and brought before the corridors of justice. He further indicated that the two culprits are residents of New Jeshwang and should not be allowed to commit a criminal offence and get away with it and that this would serve as a source of encouragement to others. He angrily stated that the criminal investigation section of the said police station failed to do their homework properly.
Going back to the accused, Mustapha Sanyang, who was arrested, Magistrate Mbacke said the court had considered the plea made by the accused person in his plea of guilt and mitigation, but it was of the view that the accused person deserved some punishment. He went on to say that most New Jeshwang youths believe that criminality is a way of life.
He finally convicted and sentenced the accused person to nine months imprisonment with hard labour.
