Donkey Driver Convicted

Ebrima Touray, a donkey driver, was on Tuesday 11th November 2008 convicted and sentenced by Magistrate's Pa Harry Jammeh at the Brikama Magistrates' Court for burglary.

According to the fact of the case as narrated by the police prosecutor, the incident happened on 30th September 2008 at Lamin. He said the complainant Ndey Jarju had sent one Fatou Camara and Mama to her shop who later informed her that the shop had been broken into. He added that the complainant, after confirming the break-in, reported the matter to the police.

He said on 10th October 2008, the complainant received a call that the accused had been apprehended at the Lamin Market with a packet of Jumbo and two packets of artificial hair.

According to Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh the total value of the  stolen items was D13, 000 and that the accused cannot pay for the stolen items.

He added that the accused is an old man.

 He finally sentenced the accused to six months' imprisonment and also ordered that the donkey cart and bicycle of the accused be given to the complainant to sell in order to recover her money.
