Superintendent Alhagie Biran Jobe Officer Commanding Fraud Squad at the Gambia Police Force Friday told the Banjul Magistrates' Court that he was the one who cautioned the accused Willy Joof.

Testifying, OC Jobe told the court that he recognised the accused Willy Joof and said on 11th October 2007, he was instructed by his former CMC Burama Dibba to invite the accused Willy Joof to the Fraud Squad office.

He added that upon Mr Joof's arrival, he cautioned him on the allegations made against him and Mr Joof made statements at different intervals, adding that all the statements were written by Mr Joof himself in the presence of an independent witness.

OC Jobe further revealed that Mr Joof made three statements and that anytime they needed additional statements they recalled him. He identified the said statement in court as the one Mr Joof made at the Fraud Squad office, which was later tendered in court as an exhibit.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel Lamin Camara, OC Jobe said the accused Willy Joof volunteered to give his statements, but admitted that they requested the statements from him. He said he did not endorse the statements because it was written by the accused himself. He said he read the contents of the statements, but could not say whether the accused denied all the allegation put to him, because he wrote his own statements.

The case was presided over by Senior Magistrate Kayode and it was adjourned until 14th November 2008.
