Six wood dealers dragged to court

The Forestry Department recently dragged six wood dealers namely Famara Jammeh, Sainey Badjie, Manlafi Camara, Modou Soury Njie, Edrissa Jarjue and Bakery Sonko to the Brikama Magistrates' Court for violating the Forestry Act.

According to particular of offence, on about 11th October 2008 at SibanorForestryPark the accused were allegedly found unlawfully cutting down trees without any authority.

When the charge sheet was read and interpreted to the accused in a language they understood, they pleaded guilty.

The case was then adjourned to enable the magistrate to get access to the Forestry Act.
