2 convicted for theft

Muhammed Danso and Habibu Ndong were on Wedesday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D3,000 each in default to serve one year in prison by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, for theft.

According to the facts of the case as narrated before the court, it happened on 16 June 2012, at Busumbala Village, when the two convicts conspired and stole a  goat valued at D2,500.

The facts added that while on their way to sell the goat, they met with one Lamin Y. Darboe and Bakary Darboe, who suspected them of stealing the goat.

It added that when asked about the goat, they claimed  it was owned by their grandmother, whom they claimed had no mobile number to be contacted.

The convicts were later escorted to Farato Police Post where they confessed stealing the said  goat.

On the day, the owner of the goat was informed, who upon arrival at the police post, confirmed the goat as his.

The convicts in their plea of mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
