YJAG to Observe 1st Anniversary

The Young Journalists Association of The Gambia (YJAG) will, in September, commemorate its first anniversary a media release from YJAG has revealed.

According to the release, signed by YJAG president Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, activities for the celebration will include a workshop and a conference on the 15th and 16th September respectively. "The commemoration is aimed at reflecting on the achievements of the association and its constraints and to remind ourselves as the only true, genuine and visible young people in the media as far as The Gambia is concerned, of our responsibility in taking the Gambian media to a higher heights," he said.

The release added that various organising committees were set up including one for fund raising, logistics and IEC which are headed by Aminata Sanneh, Isatou Bittaye and Assan Sallah respectively.

 The anniversary celebration, the release added, will be characterised by presentations on topics such as: who is a journalist? Newsgathering, Court and crime reporting, sports reporting and ethics of journalism among others.

The two-day event is expected to be graced by about 200 including student journalists, media chiefs, foreign diplomats and partners.

It will be recalled that YJAG was founded in September 2007 with the aim of promoting the general welfare of young journalists in the country, promote unity among its members and build the capacities of young journalists.
