Monday, June 16, 2008
Ekwume Peters, a Nigerian national, may remain in police custody for some time if he fails to satisfy a bail bond of D70,000 and other bail requirements.

Ekwume was recently charged at the Bundung Magistrates' Court for 'attempting' to rape a girl (name withheld). The alleged attempted rape occurred between the hours of 20:00 and 21:00 in Tallinding on 5 May 2008.

He insists on not committing any offence and was consequently granted bail in the sum of D70,000, and must get a Gambian surety, who must meet the bail requirements.

The case is expected to continue on 24 June 2008.
