Press release

The UDP diaspora Chair Mboge Saidykhan wishes to inform the general membership of the UDP diaspora of the following developments:

After a series of consultations between the various chapters that constitute the UDP diaspora, facilitated by the chair of the organizing committee, Mr. Bob Touray, a unanimous agreement was reached to hold the first ever UDP diaspora convention in Barcelona, Spain.

This maiden event in our political history will be held in Mataró, Barcelona, Spain on the 3rd and 4th of August 2024, and thousands of party supporters and sympathizers from around the world are expected to attend.

A high-powered delegation, including the Secretary General and Party Leader, ANM Ousainou Darboe, and senior members of the party will be in attendance.

This event, and others to be unveiled in the coming months are geared towards raising the much-needed funds in preparation for the upcoming 2026 elections. It will also be an opportunity to review the lessons learned from the 2021 elections, strategies for mitigating some of those issues and discuss other pertinent issues related to the party’s activities and preparations for 2026. Additionally, the gathering will be an opportunity to meet and greet, some for the first time, and cement the bonds that brought us together. It will allow us to recommit ourselves to the task of building a better Gambia and strengthen our unity as a people.

Since the establishment of the first chapter in France in 1997 to date, the UDP diaspora has been the party’s engine in terms of resource mobilization both in cash and kind. The importance of the UDP diaspora in Gambian politics cannot be overemphasized.

Sponsorship opportunities will be available in different alternatives (such as platinum, gold, and silver). These will include the opportunity to have company logos displayed at the event, collateral gift bags, cards, multimedia presentations, and podium mentions, recognition as event sponsor in follow-up letters to attendees. Sponsorship packages include admissions for four, eight, and twelve people will be provided.

On behalf of the UDP national executive and leadership of the UDP diaspora, we wish to extend an invitation to every Gambian in the diaspora, irrespective of your party’s affiliation, to join us in Spain and renew hope for the Gambia.

For the past 28 years, the United Democratic Party stood for, and with the Gambian people despite the numerous challenges it faced and the personal cost to its members; through death and despair, the party remained resolute in its bid to see a Gambia free from tyranny. There is still more to be done and we have come too far to turn back on The Gambia, not now, not ever. The Gambian people yearn for change and a United Democratic Party led government will alleviate their suffering.
