The President of The Gambia Press Union (GPU), Mr Madi
Ceesay, has been appointed as the new General Manager of the
bi-weekly newspaper, The Independent.
Mr Ceesay, who took over duties yesterday, told The Point in
an interview that his new assignment “is a challenging task
that requires commitment, dedication and trust”.
The newly appointed Independent GM expressed his desire to
take the paper to higher height, saying that despite the
challenges involved in the job, he would live up to
expectation.
For Mr Ceesay, his key priorities would be to maintain the
standard of the paper, and to develop the capacity of its
staff through training.
He noted that training of staff is the only way an
institution can be improved, adding that in the case of a
newspaper, training can not be overemphasised.
While paying a glowing tribute to his former boss, Mr
Swaebou Conateh, for the latter’s support to him in the past
ten years, Mr Ceesay called on the media fraternity to
support and collaborate with The Independent in their effort
to serve the Gambia and the world through informing,
educating and entertaining the reading public.
