Zambian side Zanaco completed a double over Gambia’s league champions Gambia Armed Forces in the 2018 CAF champions league following their 3-1 defeat of the soldier boys in the second leg of the CAF preliminary round game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Saturday night.

The Zambian side opened the score sheet through Ernest Mbewe, in the 15th minute of the game after capitalising on a defensive blunder from the GAF back line. The match attracted hundreds of Gambians, including Gambia Armed Forces senior officials.

Gambia Armed Forces could have leveled the tally through Julaba Sawaneh moments later in the 28th minute but his header went wide.

GAF leveled the scores courtesy of Lamin Sanneh, who collected the ball in the right flank to make a quick run before sliding it in the top right corner of the net in the 39th minute of the game.

The first half witnessed spectacular display and artistic skills from both teams till recess. Upon resumption from the break, the Soldier boys mounted pressure on the visitors half, but failed to utilise their limited chances knowing that the score line was not in their favour.

Saikou Jatta could have doubled the GAF score to 2-1 but his shot went inches over the goal post in the 80th minute of the game.

The visitors doubled the lead in the 83rd minute of the game after a perfect ball was sent wide to Zimiseleni Moyo, who placed a perfect cross for Martin Phiri to attack before stroking his effort into the top left corner of the goal post to dash the Gambian side of coming back into the fray.

Shortly after that fruitless effort, the Gambia league leaders conceded another goal to make 3-1 after George Chilufya had doubled the advantage with a decisive header.
