A day long
youth consultation on Global Fund’s Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) was
recently held at Paradise Suite Hotel organized by the National Youth Council
(NYC) in partnership with the Gambia Country Coordinating Mechanism.
Yusufa J. Gomez, vice chairman of CCM said the consultation was important especially to young people who, he said are future leaders of the county and their presence in the consultation is important.
He stated that CCM is responsible for Global Fund activities in the areas of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, adding that they organised the consultation because of the importance of young people in national development.
Lamin A. Camara, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sport said young people represent the largest constituent of the country’s population, saying providing them with the needed information on processes on how to better their lives is important.
Mr. Camara added that youth should be seen as reliable partners rather than regarding them as future citizens. He said young people getting involved in national development process can be enjoyable, and also, it can help develop their skills to establish network and influence positive change, saying youth participation in the development of the society makes it a better place to live.
“I give you full assurance that the Ministry of Youth and Sport will continue to collaborate with you in all ways as possible to ensure that the dream and aspirations of our young people are realised in a new and better Gambia.”
