YJAG Holds General Meeting

The Young Journalists Association of The Gambia (YJAG) on last Saturday held its first general meeting for the year 2009. The meeting well attended by members from different media houses and press clubs in the country was held at the Point Newspaper Office's in Bakau New Town.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr.Nfamara Jawneh president of YJAG described the meting as very important as according to him it's the first general meeting of the year. Jawneh reminded the members of the need for them to rededicate themselves towards the service of the association. "Today's meeting is a meeting with a different as it will accord you the opportunity to discuss what you want us to do during the year. So I urged you all to participate fully throughout the meeting" he said.

For his parts, Assan Sallah the Public Relations Officer of the association thanked the members for the large turn out. He encouraged them to keep up the momentum.

Abdul Kabir Daffeh, president Nusrat press club appealed to YJAG to help provide press club members with more training. In responds, YJAG leader said one such training was organised by the association some time last year but notwithstanding they intend to organise series of such training later this year.

Demba Kandeh Secretary General of the group reminded members to pay their membership dues on time.

The meeting also discuss the draft plan of action to be implemented by the association during the next 12 months.

Members, particularly those from GambiaCollege, Kotu, Nusrat, and Muslim senior secondary schools reaffirmed their loyalty and support to the association they described as the only true and genuine young media group that is out to represent and empower them.
