Yawmul Ashura is Saturday

According to a press release by the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), Saturday 15 October 2015 is the first day of Muharam (the 1st month of the Muslim Calendar).

The release further stated that the 9th and 10th days of Muharam will be on Friday the 23rd and Saturday the 24th October 2015.

Therefore, the council in collaboration with the Imam Ratib of Banjul wishes to announce to the general public that Friday 23rd October will be the day of Tasuha’a and Saturday 24th October 2015 will be the day of Ashur’a (Yawmul Ashura) locally known as “Tamharit” for the year 1437H.

The council would like to remind the Muslim Ummahof the importance of fasting on these two days.

The council would wish his Excellency Sheikh Prof. Dr. Alh. Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh, his government and the entire Muslim Ummah in The Gambia a blessed celebration of the feast of Yawmul Ashura.

May Allah accept our prayers, continue to guide and bless this nation and bring back more and more Yawmul Ashura.
